Oral health of cystic fibrosis patients at a north american center: A pilot study

Background The objective of this study was to describe the oral health status of Cystic Fibrosis (CF) children in a US facility. Material and Methods Twenty CF children ages 6-18 were recruited from Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin Pulmonary Clinic. Parents completed a health questionnaire. Clinical examinations checked dental caries using the dmft/DMFT index, dental hygiene using the Simplified Greene-Vermillion Index (DI-S), gingival inflammation using the Community Periodontal Index of Treatment Needs, and enamel defects using the modified Developmental Defects of Enamel Index. Prevalence of enamel defects in primary and permanent teeth in a group of schoolchildren from Granada (Spain)

Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine and compare the prevalence and presentations of developmental defects of the enamel (DDE) in the primary and permanent dentitions of a group of healthy schoolchildren residing in Granada (Spain). Study Design: A total of 1,414 healthy schoolchildren were examined using modified DDE criteria for recording enamel defects. Results: The prevalence of DDE of any type was 40.2% in primary dentition and 52% in permanent dentition (p<0.033). Of the 31,820 primary and permanent teeth examined in the study, 699 (4.1%) primary and 1,232 (8.3%) permanent teeth had some form of DDE. A tooth whitening and chemical abrasive protocol for the treatment of developmental enamel defects

Abstract This clinical report describes a chemical abrasive protocol and whitening techniques to quantify modifications to the color and volume produced when eliminating white spots associated with developmental defects in enamel. Chemical (oxidative-erosive) abrasive treatment (whitening + 6.6% hydrochloric acid) resolves white spots up to a depth of 0.2 mm. At greater depths, infiltration with 16% hydrochloric acid followed by composite resin infiltration is recommended.
